First Fashion Post of the Summer

Hey guys! It's me Darlene again, I have no idea why I wrote it that way but it's always awkward starting off a post (lol). Some of you guys may or may not know, but I low key model. I say low key, because I don't like to label myself as a model (a post on why I don't like to be labeled as a model is in the works) I'm more of what my best friend calls a "fashion enthusiast".

As I mentioned in my recent post I've been in a major fashion/creative rut. It's been super frustrating wanting to create, but I've been lacking so much motivation.

Luckily I have amazing creatives around me that make me want to create, and this recent shoot that I did with Jonathan Santana was no exception. Jonathan and I have been meaning to shoot for some time now, but either our schedules wouldn't match up or the weather was complete crap.

For this shoot we weren't going for a specific look, it was basically whatever I wanted to wear. You guys already know that being in a fashion rut it wasn't an easy task for me. I decided to throw on jeans, bodysuit, and a kimono.

For this look I wanted the kimono to be the statement, so I didn't want to accessorize and wanted to keep every other aspect of this outfit simple.

As I was walking one day I bumped into the Wood Street Steps, and I knew that I had to do a lookbook or some type of shoot there. The steps are so rustic and the homes around it, are painted a beautiful sandy color.

These steps are a passageway back in time. William Penn ordered these steps to made, so people can have access to the Philadelphia Waterfront.

That is what I love about Philadelphia, we are immersed in so much culture in history.

When kimonos became a big trend a couple of years ago, I filled my closet with kimonos (huge overkill). I gave myself a break from kimonos, and when I saw this on the Boohoo website I knew I had to have it. I love how versatile kimonos can be, for example this specific kimono can be worn with shorts, pants (as seen on here), dress, or even as cover up for the beach. The possibilities are endless.

So my advice is to invest in cute kimono for your summer wardrobe. This will not only jazz up any plain outfit, but it'll also push you to play around with layering in the summer.

That is all for today, hope you all enjoyed this fashion post

Turtlenecks and Weird Sleeves

Hey guys,

Hope everyone is enjoying their school break and the holidays.  Most of my inspiration comes from iconic fashion eras, and street style from places like New York, Paris, Italy, and Los Angeles. One day while browsing Pinterest I found pictures of the newest Victoria Secret model Taylor Hill. She was wearing an oversized sweater similar to this one with leggings and sneakers.

Naturally I went on the hunt for a similar sweater, and had no luck. Then one day casually shopping, my favorite store (Forever 21) came through and I found it. This is a sweater, so technically it’s not supposed to be worn as dress, but fashion rules are meant to be broken.  To solve that little issue and make it acceptable I bought a size larger than what I usually wear.

Laced up Boots Forever 21

Although she wore it super cute with the sneakers and leggings, it’s not my personal style. I decided to pair the sweater with laced up boots and biker shorts under. Cool story I was eyeing these boots on the Forever 21 website since June, and just was too lazy to buy them. The same day I found this sweater, the boots were also there and I had a That’s so Raven vision moment when I saw this put together put together in the future.

Backpack Target

Backpack Target

My favorite accessory lately has been this leather backpack from Target with gold accents. I bought this back in September when I went to the Made in America festival. At first I bought it solely for the festival, but now I wear it every day. It’s so easy to wear and carry all of my stuff.

Many people forget that hair can either make or break and outfit. I wanted the sole focus of this outfit to be the sweater. So I knew that if I had my hair it out, it would take away from it, so opted for the tucked in hair trend that has been spotted in many runways last season. To me this hair gave the outfit and element of surprise and edge.

That's all of for this weeks style post, remember that fashion is fun especially because you can break rules and make it your own by adding personal touches to each outfit.

Hope this served as some inspiration and that you call have a safe and happy holidays. Thank you for reading

Bomber Jacket Style

Hello, my lovely readers. It's been such a long time, I've been going through blogging withdrawals. Luckily this fall semester is over, and I can get into fun stuff like blogging.

I remember writing on my last post how Spring/Summer are usually my favorite seasons, but that recently I've been really digging the colder weather.

I owe this great realization to layering. Lately I've been experimenting with layering, which I know some may say "it's easy" but honestly it takes knowing what textures and colors go well together. Basically I'm trying to become a master of layering haha.

To me one of the things that's been a big staple and layer piece in most girls wardrobes has definitely been coats and jackets.

I love especially the bomber jackets. We've seen celebrities from the Kardashian/Jenner clan, supermodel Kate Moss, and many others rock bomber jackets in various ways.

As many of my readers know, I love clothing items that I can wear many times and in many ways. With the bomber jacket, I've found so many ways to style it.

For this specific outfit I wanted to play with masculinity of the jacket and add a feminine touch.

To give this look the feminine feel I added this Forever 21 skort and High heeled boots from Buffalo Exchange.

Also to play with the layering aspect of this outfit added this oversized white button down.

A cool tip, is to play around with the placing of a jacket it makes all the difference. I've been loving how girls are letting jackets and coats sit on their shoulders, so I went that route with this outfit.

Hope this serves as a style inspo, and you recreate this look adding different layers and your personal style.

Start of Fall

Howdy y'all! For the first time ever I'm pretty excited for this upcoming cold weather. The recent trends of layering and loose clothing is convincing me that Fall might be my favorite season.

Anyone who knows me, know that I love leather moto jackets. The reason why I love them so much is, because they are so versatile and gives instant edginess to any outfit. Seriously, the other day I was having one of those lazy days where I wanted to wear tapered sweatpants and a baggy t-shirt but I also wanted to look trendy, so naturally I threw on this leather jacket from Forever 21 and voila I looked casual chic.

With every outfit I put together, the goal is for it to be effortless and wearable. For this specific outfit, I wanted it to be a little grunge, minimalistic, street chic.

To give the outfit a grungy feel, I paired this shirt dress with the Forever 21 leather motorcycle jacket.

nZD4s3qkgoHP1_-SVnRGBUTIxEn0kqm_SdvdNXCt8xg,6MF7fD7P8defLL2nnZfX4xH9cjVkVDwRGKRgpaeHbeU,VVj6SATHXWvdVfhlx7KrEbDsj3pczvfGafUR0vOy5Fw,lis60DycUAOGoOnjHQXtdF2mKM8bS8xArvsavuT0_TY-2.jpeg

This minimalistic shirt dress from Forever 21 is so comfortable, and easy to wear. The reason I purchased it, was because I knew I could wear for all four seasons (and in so man ways), so in the cold weather I choose to pair it with boots.

Lastly, I decided to pair the complete outfit with my favorite style of boots, the over the knee boot. There are so many reasons why I don't get tired of wearing over the knee boots, and it's because they are so darn chic and sexy. Wear them with jeans, mini shirts, boxy mini dresses, fitted midi skirts/dresses (Kim Kardashian style), or shorts legit anything looks good with over the knee boots.

Last year I wore these boots with shorter styles, but I've been totally loving experimenting with longer styles that almost cover the boot. It's just way too awesome to explain in words. SO what's your favorite thing to wear for this upcoming chilly weather?

Boyfriend Jeans

Hey, how's it going? I know some of my college student readers, are probably over it already ( I can relate lol).

Origami Blouse H&M/ Boyfriend Watch Fossil

Origami Blouse H&M/ Boyfriend Watch Fossil

This week's look is fairly simple like most of them. I can confidently say that one my go to peices from my closet are any of my boyfriend jeans. Also I want to admit that when boyfriend jeans were introduced a couple years ago I was hesitant to purchase them. Why you may ask?

Mostly because I was so stuck on thinking that fitted jeans were the way to go. After giving in and purchasing my first pair about 2 years ago, I can honestly admit that when it comes to comfort they are my go to.

Something that we all can take and appreciate from fashion, is that it's always challenging society on what the "norm" is. When boyfriend jeans were introduced to us a couple years ago, it kind of opened the doors for women to play with masculine textures. Many bloggers took the idea of boyfriend jeans and ran with it, by mixing that masculine aspect of them with feminine items like heels and blouses.

My hope is that we all welcome fashion and personalize it to our unique style.

Fashion is fun, there's so right or wrong way to do fashion as long as you're dressing your body right and are comfortable in what you're wearing.....

Olive

Hey guys, how's it going? It's been such a long time since my last post, I'm still adjusting to my new work and school schedule.

I've always had a thing for that deep olive color, and luckily for those like me that enjoy that color this summer it was one of the biggest color trends in many clothing stores. So of course I went through a olive green overload (seriously guys lol) and bought anything that color.

By far one of my favorite olive green pieces I purchased is this suede olive green skort from Forever 21.

Olive Green Suede Skort Forever 21.

By now I know most of you know that I'm all about simplicity, so I paired the skort with a basic ribbed tank from H&M. Which by the way I didn't know run a tad big, so I recommend buying this particular tank a size smaller.

Polarized Sunglasses are one of my favorite accessories, because it really makes an outfit pop and edgy. The specific sunglasses are ASOS, if you haven't checked out that website please do it's one of my personal favorites.

To finish off the look, I wore these super comfortable heels from JustFab. These are the heels every girl should have in their closet, because they are super practical and comfortable to wear.

Mom Jeans, more like mami jeans.

Hey everyone, how's it going? So last week I did something a little daring and bought "mom jeans". I've wanting a pair for quite some time, but I'm always so picky with how denim fits me. So while online browsing (again) I found a cool pair on the H&M website (for sale). If you know me, you know that I love a sale so I purchased them. They are a tad big, but I really love how they look like raw denim.

I love white t-shirts, and I really wanted to keep this a little grungy. Also how awesome does this denim wash look with white!

I can't stress enough how much I love, LOVE my Doc Marten boots. These boots have been with me for about two years now, and they are such great quality and go with mostly everything in my closet.

Midi and Curls

Hey guys, how are you? This week's look is all black. Can we talk about what a wrong choice of color to wear when it's 90 something degree weather, and 70 percent humidity. Although I was super hot I really liked how simple but chic this outfit came out. Now lets get to the outfit details...

Midi dresses/skirts have been all the rave for quite sometime. Can you blame girls for loving this length? It can easily be transformed into a  casual or dressy look pair it with the right shoes/ accessories and you are ready to go.

This ribbed midi dress is from H&M, of course from their Basic brand

White Layers

Hey guys, how's your day going?  For a really long time I've been wanting to create a all white look, but would always push it to the side and never got to it. Then I was online browsing (pretty much the death of my wallet), and I found this long tank from ASOS and it was the push I needed to finally come up with one.

ASOS styled this tank with light - wash skinny jeans, but I decided to go with white jeans from H&M instead.

I think the trickiest part about wearing all white (aside from getting dirty) is making sure that the layers of white are the same or compliment each other. That was another thing that made me put off doing this look for a really long time.

Mostly Black

Hi guys, how are you all doing? If you have been following me for a while you would know that my style is pretty simple. I usually never wear accessories (mostly because I suck at buying them), and I love neutral colors.

Metallic Round Sunglasses (Forever 21)

Metallic Round Sunglasses (Forever 21)

On this particular day I was out shooting with Koji Sese and Rich,  two very talented photographers from New Jersey. These pictures were taken in a abandoned Kmart, but it was the perfect setting for this mostly black look.

I love wearing all black, and over the years that I've experimented with this combo I've realized that the best way to wear all black is by pairing different fabrics and textures to break up the darkness. So for this particular outfit I paired a silky tank with denim jeans.

Also I couldn't forget my current favorite my leather converses.
